While there are no specific vaccinations required before entering Egypt, it is better to discuss and get all necessary test done by your personal physician six to eight weeks prior to your visit to determine whether you need to update any vaccination or need to carry any medications along with you.

The incidents of crime are very low in Egypt yet occasional incidents of purse snatching and pick pocketing do take place one in a while. Tourists should not lave their valuables, documents, jewelry and cash in their hotel rooms during their absence.

It is advisable to avoid tap water, unbottled beverages or drinks with ice. Always drink properly sealed drinking water and beverages. Always eat freshly prepared food and avoid raw, cut street side fruit stalls.

One should always bring loose and light cotton wears for summers and light woolens for winter evenings. Shorts, short-skirts and bare shoulders are not allowed while visiting mosques and churches. It is advisable to keep short and sleeveless dresses for beaches and pools. Always carry a hat, sunglasses, sun block lotion to avoid sun.

The offices are open from Saturday through Wednesday from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm and are closed on Thursday and Friday and on all the National Holidays. Most of the shops open from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm, but the timings may vary slightly. Many individual shops have their own schedule of opening and closure of their shops.

The local currency in circulation is the Egyptian Pound. The foreign currency can be easily exchanged at the airport, banks and authorized exchange offices. Daily official rates of exchange are posted in these offices.

Majority of hotels, shops and other tourist establishments accept credit cards such as Visa Card, Master Card American Express and Diner's Club. Smaller business establishments accept credits cards generally with a 3% service tax for the card payment.
